The S.E. Shires Destino III trumpet is the flagship model of the brand, resulting from a close collaboration with legendary trumpeter Doc Severinsen. This unique model incorporates specific design elements not found on other S.E. Shires trumpets.
The Destino III excels in jazz and pop/variety music. Surprisingly, it is also favored by demanding classical trumpeters who use it across a wide array of pieces, from solos to major orchestral works.
Featuring an ML bore of 11.66 mm, the Destino III is equipped with a lightweight yellow brass DOC leadpipe with an interior diameter of 8.75 mm, ensuring a flexible, free, and open play. The half-moon tuning slide, characteristic of this model, provides an efficient and centered play, perfectly in harmony with the bell. This synergy results in an open sound with easy response.
The DOC bell is made of yellow brass, with a diameter of 122.2 mm, crafted from a single piece and hand-hammered. The harmony between the leadpipe and bell is enhanced by nickel-silver balusters, which add depth and resonance to the sound. Narrow braces promote remarkable response, impeccable clarity, and easy attack.
The trumpet is powerful and rich in the upper and middle registers, while offering an unexpectedly strong lower register. Despite its power, the Destino III stands out for its lightness and efficiency, allowing for incredible delicacy in play.
The instrument offers a wide range of nuances and sound colors, unlocking an extraordinary palette for the musician. This is made possible by the meticulous balance of components, on which Doc Severinsen has devoted a lifetime of experience, experimentation, research, and development at S.E. Shires.
Other notable features include hand-lapped Monel pistons, a two-piece lightweight piston body, and nickel-silver balusters. Special slides with heavy bends, a harmonic balancer on the 1st slide, and a water key on the 3rd slide complete this exceptional instrument.
The trumpet is adorned with Shires' artisan engraving featuring a floral motif and is finished in silver. It comes with a Shires case and mouthpiece, attesting to the quality and reputation of S.E. Shires, which has been manufacturing high-end trumpets for over thirty years.
